Ihope there's more commitment from the members of this once fine club when the cricket actually starts, because at the moment it looks like we've only got about half a dozen people interested in the place.

yep we were a bit thin on the ground today, i'll bet the place is crawling with people next friday wanting to netting, and expecting the ground to be playable come the first week!

It was always thus. Season's come and season's go but it will always be a few people who put the hard work in for the benefit of the wider club.
My thought has always been that the club expanding in numbers is a very positive thing - and new pitches and new teams are things to be very proud of.
The problem occurs when the same core handful of willing volunteers have more work to do (e.g 2 grounds need a square preparing and an outfield cutting). That problem can only be solved with more people stepping up to commit their time other than on a Saturday afternoon/evening.
Normally Easter onwards is the easy time to get bodies to chip in as the excitement builds for the new season. If 2 of the core squad in Robbo and Mike are already raising the question it could be a very long season.

Sat 12th - 9am Dear All,
in reading this you've seen the above posts!
We now have one weekend to get the club into the condition which it needs to be in to start the season. The guys who have been at the club each weekend over the last 4 weekends have done a great job but there is much more to do.
To that efect I'd request that all those wanting a game of cricket on the 26th give up their Sat (12th) to make this happen - esp. the young guys who quite frankly have nowt to do all day apart from sleep and hang around town / their mates houuse playing with themselves / their play stations!
Hope to see lots of people of Sat, from 9am until late - I know that Robbo and Trev have got lots to keep us all busy - and you never know, it might even involve a few beers down the Lion at lunch time.
